5G modem-RF system achieves 10-Gbps speed


The Snapdragon X65 modem-to-antenna system from Qualcomm is a 10-Gbps 5G and 3GPP Release 16 platform with an upgradeable architecture for rapid rollout. The QTM545 5G mmWave antenna module pairs with the Snapdragon X65, bringing higher transmit power compared to previous generations, while maintaining the same tiny footprint. An extended millimeter-wave (mmWave) range results in higher connectivity reliability and throughput speeds.

Along with its 10-Gbps peak download speed, the Snapdragon X65 allows for enhancements, expandability, and customization across 5G segments. It enables rollout of new Release 16 features across smartphones, mobile broadband, fixed wireless access, industrial IoT, and 5G private networks via software upgrades. With its 4-nm baseband chip and a number of power-saving technologies, Snapdragon X65 achieves high power efficiency and all-day battery life.

The QTM545 5G antenna module supports all global mmWave frequencies, including the new n259 (41 GHz) band. It is designed to work with Snapdragon X65’s power-saving techniques and Smart Transmit 2.0 technology. Smart Transmit 2.0 takes advantage of modem-to-antenna system awareness to increase upload data speeds and enhance coverage for both mmWave and sub-6-GHz bands, while continuing to meet RF emissions requirements.

The Snapdragon X65 modem-RF system is currently sampling to OEMs and targeting commercial device launches late in 2021.
