What’s on Paramount+? The 10 best movies right now

Paramount+, the streaming video service formerly known as CBS All Access, is owned by the entertainment giant ViacomCBS. Paramount+ targets cord-cutters (and cord-nevers) with a mixture of television shows and motion pictures. This story focuses on the 10 best films currently available on the service. You can read our full review of Paramount+ at this link.

Paramount+ costs $5.99 a month ($59.99 if paid annually) for an ad-supported plan, or $9.99 a month ($99.99 annually) for an ad-free plan.

This will change in June. A new $5-per-month ad-supported price plan will be introduced, but it will not include access to CBS live TV. Viewers who are already grandfathered in can keep the $6 plan or change to the $5 plan. New users will not be able to choose the live-TV option, and if a user switches from the $6 plan to the $5 plan, there’s no switching back.

Tune in next week for a look at the 10 best TV shows available on Paramount+.

Gigolo Joe (Jude Law) takes young robot David (Haley Joel Osment) on a quest to become “real” in A.I. Artificial Intelligence.

Steven Spielberg’s filmed version of a long-dreamed-of Stanley Kubrick project is truly dazzling, and absolutely heartbreaking, as it deals with love offered and then withdrawn. A long coda sometimes confuses viewers, but the passage of time has revealed this as one of Spielberg’s most accomplished works.

Roman Polanski’s Chinatown, starring Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunnaway, is not only one of the best movies available on Paramount+, it’s one of the best movies ever made.

One of the greatest American films ever made, this masterpiece is a pristine detective story, intricately designed and performed, but it’s also the story of America itself. Jack Nicholson is Jake Gittes, with Faye Dunaway as Evelyn Mulwray, and John Huston as Noah Cross. Roman Polanski directed.

Clue was broadly panned when it came to theaters, but it has evolved into a much-loved cult classic with the passage of time.

Critically destroyed upon its release for its use of three alternate endings, this absurd comedy has become a much-loved, much-quoted cult classic. The key to its humor is its buttoned-up characters in a glorious mansion acting absolutely bonkers. It features an all-star cast, but Madeline Kahn steals the show.

The Elephant Man

The Elephant Man, directed by David Lynch, earned Oscar nominations in the Best Picture and Best Director categories.

David Lynch’s second feature earned Oscar nominations for Best Picture and Best Director, telling the story of the severely deformed John Merrick (John Hurt, in heavy makeup). Shot in stark black-and-white and using Lynch’s typical unsettling sound design, the movie nonetheless touches deeply.
