At the European Microwave Week (EuMW, September 22 to 27, Paris), dSPACE will, for the first time, present an efficient test solution that can be used to perform high-precision separation and interference tests on automotive radar sensors. The system makes it possible to transfer previously time-consuming tests to a controlled laboratory environment and helps speed up the development of reliable and safe advanced driver assistance systems, which are increasingly integrating radar technologies.
With this solution, dSPACE offers another function for the Essential 2D Radar Test Bench for reproducible angle separation tests, thus expanding the portfolio of radar test benches: A rail system enables the simple integration of two DARTS front ends that can be moved in relation to each other. The tried-and-tested DARTS technology with the world’s most compact RF front ends lets users set up two monostatic systems with outstanding simulation quality. The DARTS 9040-GT is ideally suited for this application, as it facilitates the simulation of two radar targets from different angles.
The ever-increasing number of radar sensors in road traffic raises the question of sensor immunity. This involves both the interference of radar signals emitted by different sensors of a vehicle and the interference of radar sensors from different vehicles. The interference behavior can be tested by superimposing the radar echo with the signal of an interfering radar. In the test solution shown at EuMW, a DARTS 9040-G, which processes the entire frequency range from 76 to 81 GHz simultaneously, receives the signal from the interfering radar and feeds it into the DARTS 9040-GT for the radar system under test.
“The setup makes it easy to investigate the separation capability of high-resolution automotive radar sensors and their interference behavior,” explains Christian Schäfers, Product Manager at dSPACE. “Both the separation tests and interference tests can be carried out as black-box tests, as no information about the radar sensors is required,” Schäfers continues.
In addition, dSPACE will be showing extensions of the DARTS technology for high-precision testing of dynamic driving scenarios and 60 GHz radars, as well as environment simulation and software-in-the-loop testing of ADAS functions.
