While the renders of the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G didn’t cause much excitement, the promise of 6 years of updates (that includes six major OS updates and six years of patches) caused quite a stir. The phone inched closer to official status today with Samsung India putting up support pages and Thailand’s NBTC certifying the phone.
Well, one version of the phone, anyway, SM-A166P/DS. This is the same model number as on the support page for India.
This version appeared in benchmark results a while back with a Dimensity 6300 chipset. Later, a different model, SM-A166E, showed up with an Exynos 1330 instead. Chances are that different regions are getting different chips. India and Thailand are getting the Dimensity version. One model had just 4GB of RAM, which is going to be tough after six years, but the other benchmarked model had 6GB (that isn’t much either). There should be an option for 8GB too.
Based on leaks, the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G will have a 6.7” LCD (1,080 x 2,340px, 90Hz, 800 nits), 128/256GB storage and basic dust and water resistance with an IP54 rating. It will be powered by a 5,000mAh battery and, knowing Samsung, we would be shocked if it doesn’t charge at 25W.
