iPhone 17 Slim to feature a new kind of OLED display

With the diminishing iPhone Plus sales over the years, Apple is looking to substitute the Plus lineup with something more exciting. Or that’s at least according to the rumors this year. Enter the iPhone 17 Slim, a new iPhone lineup, rumored to be even more expensive than the Pro Max series.

iPhone 17 Slim to feature a new kind of OLED display

New information coming from DigiTimes suggests the upcoming iPhone 17 Slim will feature a new kind of OLED display that could allow an extremely thin build. A lesser-known Taiwanese brand, Novatek, recently introduced a new TDDI OLED panel that combines the touch sensor layer and the display driver into one unit. That’s why it’s called TDDI, which stands for Touch and Display Driver Integration.

It may not sound like a groundbreaking tech, but it might prove crucial to decrease smartphone thickness and shave off a few millimeters.

DigiTimes believes that Apple will likely use Novatek as a supplier for OLED panels next year for its iPhone 17 Slim, although it doesn’t have any clear confirmation of the partnership. In fact, the news outlet speculates that Apple might test the new tech on other devices before introducing it to its iPhone lineup. For instance, Apple Watches or iPads might get TDDI OLEDs before the iPhones.

Keep in mind that rumors are wild right now, so the Slim might end up entirely different and with a completely different marketing name too. For example, a leak from July suggested the handset would have just one camera on its back, which doesn’t sound plausible given the rumored price.
