General Micro Systems Unveils Next-Gen Secure Cross-Domain Systems for Battlefield Communications

General Micro Systems (GMS) has launched four new customizable Cross-Domain Systems (CDS) designed to deliver ultra-secure gigabit communications in real-time, both on the ground and in the air. These systems represent a groundbreaking advancement in battlefield technology, providing enhanced security across multiple classified and public communication networks.

GMS, renowned for its expertise in defense communications and secure data processing, has developed an airborne 3-domain CDS, two ground-based CDS systems, and a ¼ ATR OpenVPX-based CDS. All four are built on GMS’s X9 distributed computing architecture, offering robust features such as mission processing, secure data storage, encryption, and support for SATCOM and AI capabilities. The systems also incorporate GMS’s Enhanced SecureDNA™ cyber suite for advanced protection against tampering and unauthorized data access.

Ensuring Secure Data Transfer in a Connected Battlefield

“In today’s battlefield, data travels across a myriad of systems, often at gigabit speeds,” said Ben Sharfi, CEO of GMS. “With increased cooperation between U.S. forces and NATO allies, there’s a critical need to manage classified and unclassified data securely. Our new CDS offerings address this need, providing real-time data filtering, encryption, and secure transfer, even in the most hostile environments.”

Unlike traditional multi-domain systems, GMS’s CDS solutions offer higher levels of security through data diodes for rule-based routing and advanced cryptographic measures. These systems ensure that classified (red) and unclassified (black) data streams remain securely separated while allowing for controlled data sharing between networks, including public systems like Wi-Fi, 5G, and SATCOM.

Innovative Features for Enhanced Battlefield Security

The new CDS units are designed with flexibility and modularity in mind. The airborne system features three enclaves—Purple, Red, and Black—while the ground-based systems offer configurations tailored to various use cases, including a small, highly portable “Cube” version. All models are TEMPEST-certified and feature Intel’s Thunderbolt™ 4-over-fiber connections, ensuring minimal electromagnetic interference (EMI) and secure, high-speed data transfers.

Enhanced SecureDNA™ for Cybersecurity

GMS has significantly upgraded its SecureDNA™ suite, incorporating new features like hardware-level secure erase, tamper alerts triggered by drive bay access, and a Domain IO Controller with CAC authentication. This system can autonomously sanitize and erase critical data in the event of an intruder alert, ensuring mission-critical information is never compromised.
