Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI), a global leader in analog, mixed-signal, RF, and power technologies, has developed a fully integrated System-in-Package (SiP) I/Q upconverter that extends the company’s high-frequency portfolio into the E-Band spectrum. The HMC7584LG is designed to meet the stringent performance demands of high-capacity wireless communications and advanced instrumentation systems and operates across an IF input range from DC to 2 GHz and delivers RF output across the 71 GHz to 76 GHz band, making it ideal for modern E-band communication platforms.
At the heart of the HMC7584LG is an image rejection mixer driven by an integrated 6× local oscillator (LO) multiplier. This architecture enables the device to deliver a typical conversion gain of 34 dB, supported by a variable gain amplifier and medium power amplifier at the output stage. The device also offers a typical gain control range of 40 dB.
Designed with versatility in mind, the HMC7584LG supports both differential and single-ended IF inputs. Differential I and Q mixer inputs can be directly driven by baseband waveforms for direct conversion designs, while single-ended drive is possible using an external 90° hybrid and a pair of 180° hybrids, providing flexibility for a wide range of design architectures.
Engineered for performance, the HMC7584 achieves a saturated output power of 25 dBm, output IP3 of 31 dBm, and output power at 1 dB compression of 24 dBm, ensuring strong linearity and dynamic range. Additionally, the device integrates both a power detector and an envelope detector for I/Q mismatch correction and LO nulling—features that enhance signal integrity and simplify system calibration.
Housed in a compact 16 mm × 14 mm 50-lead surface-mount package, the HMC7584LG offers a high level of integration, eliminating the need for discrete components and minimizing board footprint. This makes it a highly attractive choice for space-constrained systems requiring robust mmWave performance.
Typical Applications:
With operation validated across a wide temperature range from –40°C to +85°C, and optimized for performance under stringent electrical conditions, the HMC7584LG stands out as a best-in-class solution for next-generation mmWave designs. Whether in commercial wireless networks or precision test environments, this upconverter from ADI delivers the power, flexibility, and integration required for future-ready E-Band systems.
