Valcom Antennas (Valcom Manufacturing Group Inc.) has announced its participation in the Polar Over-the-Horizon Radar (P-OTHR) project in collaboration with ATCO Frontec and Inuvialuit Development Corp (IDC).
The POTHR project, commissioned by the Department of National Defence, is designed to strengthen Canada’s ability to monitor its northern approaches and defend against emerging global threats. Using advanced high-frequency radar technology, the system will extend Canada’s detection and tracking capabilities far beyond the line of sight, providing persistent, wide-area situational awareness in the Arctic, where traditional radar is limited by terrain and atmospheric conditions.
Valcom Antennas‘ expertise in designing durable and high-performance antennas, including shipboard communication systems, makes them a valuable partner in this initiative, contributing to the development of cutting-edge communication infrastructure for the Canadian Armed Forces.
“We are honoured to collaborate with ATCO Frontec & IDC on this significant project,” said Howard Tuffnail, President at Valcom Antennas. “Our involvement underscores our commitment to supporting Canada’s defence sector and advancing technological solutions that ensure the security of our northern borders.”
Valcom Antennas‘ participation in the P-OTHR project aligns with their longstanding tradition of delivering innovative communication solutions to the defence industry. With a legacy of excellence and a commitment to quality, reflected in the approximately 85% Canadian content of their antennas, Valcom continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of defence communications in Canada.
