Orbital Research Expands SATCOM Product Line with Custom 1:1 & 1:2 Redundant Switch Systems

Orbital Research Expands SATCOM Product Line with Custom 1:1 & 1:2 Redundant Switch Systems

Orbital Research, a leader in high-performance frequency conversion technology, specializes in developing custom solutions including low-noise block downconverters (LNBs), block downconverters (BDCs), low-noise amplifiers (LNAs), and block upconverters (BUC) redundant systems. The company provides custom-made redundant switch systems for satellite communication (SATCOM) networks, supporting 1:1 and 1:2 configurations across all frequency bands – L, S, C, X, KuKaand Q bands.

These units are available in both indoor and outdoor options. The outdoor units adapt to hub, boom, prime focus, rack, or other mounting requirements. Indoor controllers come pre-mounted on 1RU, 19-inch rails. Redundancy can be automatic, triggered by current sensing or external alarms, or selected manually. Power supply redundancy is built in. Remote SNMP monitoring and control are supported via Ethernet.

Product Highlights:

  1. Automatic or manual device switching
  2. Intuitive indoor unit operation with LED status display and control buttons
  3. Local or remote operation via SNMP
  4. Increased network availability for enhanced reliability
  5. Flexible mounting options—antenna hubs, boom arms, pole mounts
  6. Value-added options—input/output couplers, transmit reject filters, 10 MHz reference backup, remote band switching, off-line device testing, and weather protection shrouds
  7. Standardized cable lengths up to 100 m (long runs available)
  8. Customizable system configurations

 LNB Redundant Switch

The product in the image above is an LNB Redundant Switch designed as a slim, streamlined outdoor unit. It mounts on a 19” rail for easy installation. LNBs can be swapped quickly with industry-standard units. Each system includes coaxial cabling for L-band signals. Control cables carry DC, 10 MHz reference, and monitoring/control signals. Device redundancy is automatic, triggered by current sensing, or can be manually selected. Power supply redundancy is built in.

Custom redundancy systems can be designed upon request to meet specific operational needs. Click here to learn more about the custom redundant switch systems that Orbital Research can make for you.
