One of this year’s biggest new autumn game releases is Battlefield 6, which has quickly risen to become one of the most popular multiplayer titles out right now ever since it released in early October. The game exploded with 750K players on Steam alone at launch, and went on to sell an incredibly impressive 7 million copies in just three days.
The launch of Battlefield 6 Season 1 and Battlefield REDSEC only served to bolster its performance, and it sports hundreds of thousands of concurrent players even now as I write this. Notably, the game has also retained a high position on the Steam Top Sellers chart, only being knocked out of the top spot weeks post-release by ARC Raiders and Europa Universalis V.
Battlefield Studios announced the new patch on social media in a Community Update, explaining that it’s made over 90 changes to various in-game Challenges and Assignments in order to make them simpler and easier to complete.
Affected Challenges include those that require you to utilize specific class actions or gadgets like the Support’s Defibrillator, damage and kill Assignments for each different weapon class, mode-specific Challenges for getting wins or contributing to objectives, and Challenges for specific gameplay accomplishments like multikills, kill streaks, headshots, and revives.
The reason why this was such a major issue is because a huge variety of unlocks are gated behind completing these Challenges. Thus, because they were so difficult, they were grinding player progression to a halt.
Previously, some of these Challenges had very high — downright ridiculous, in some cases — requirements, such as dealing over 10,000 points of damage with a specific weapon type or getting a whopping 30 kills while attacking or defending Conquest objectives in one round. Even for skilled players, these were proving to be a huge pain to finish.
The reason why this was such a major issue is because a huge variety of unlocks are gated behind completing these Challenges, ranging from new weapons and weapon attachments to class gadgets and cosmetics like character skins and skin variants. Thus, because they were so difficult, they were grinding player progression to a halt.
With that in mind, it’s great news that most of them have finally been reworked, then, if not also a little disappointing that it’s taken nearly a month for Battlefield Studios to do so. Still, I’m glad these changes have come, and luckily, progress made previously has rolled over to these new versions of the Challenges, so you may find that you have many of them completed when you next log in.
Notably, further tweaks to Challenges are coming, which the developers confirmed in the Community Update.
“As previously indicated, the scale of our plans for Challenges and Assignments are large and will take place over multiple server-side and client-side updates, expect additional updates in the future,” they wrote. “We value your ongoing feedback around Challenges and Assignments as we continue to roll out further improvements.”
Ultimately, Battlefield 6 still has some big issues, but its absurd Challenges were one of its largest, and these sweeping changes to them have almost completely fixed that problem.

Even with its drawbacks taken into account, I’m confident in saying Battlefield 6 is one of 2025’s best games, and absolutely worth picking up.
