One of the best new action RPGs of 2025 across Xbox, PlayStation, and PC was Elden Ring Nightreign — FromSoftware’s bold and experimental twist on its 2022 Game of the Year-winning Soulslike that transformed it into a co-op roguelike spinoff. Since launch, it’s gotten several substantial updates, including one that added rotating Everdark Sovereign versions of Nightlord bosses and another that introduced a hard mode for the already-challenging title.
We’ve known a full DLC is coming since release, also — and now, thanks to a new announcement, we finally know what it’s called, much of the content included in it, and when exactly you can ride your spectral hawk and return to Limveld to play through it yourself.
Broadly speaking, The Forsaken Hollows will give players access to two new playable Nightfarer classes, two new main bosses to challenge in Expeditions, and several new environments to explore accessed through Nightreign’s Shifting Earth map randomization feature. There’s “more,” too, and some of it can be spotted in the trailer — along with greater details about the aforementioned main features.
For one, an Ironeye player battles a Fire Knight in it and a Guardian player fights the Divine Beast Dancing Lion boss also, which confirms that enemies and bosses from Elden Ring’s critically acclaimed Shadow of the Erdtree expansion are coming to Nightreign with this DLC. These will serve to add greater variety to the game’s random encounters, which I’d argue it needs quite a bit.
The trailer also shows none other than Artorias the Abysswalker himself, who longtime FromSoftware fans will recognize as the main character of and one of the major boss fights in the Artorias of the Abyss DLC for the original 2011 Dark Souls.

He’s joined the ranks of Nightreign’s other returning Dark Souls bosses and will likely be encountered as a Night boss in a similar manner, though I do hope they’ve buffed his health and made him faster to account for the speedier nature of the Nightfarers compared to the Chosen Undead.
Speaking of Nightfarers, we got a close look at both of the new ones as well. One of them is a woman that can cover herself in some sort of buff before appearing to slam into a target, and has a mace as her signature weapon. The other is a robed man that wields a rapier and a magical grimoire capable of suspending foes in midair, immobilizing them.
Finally, we also got to briefly see both of the DLC’s new major bosses, which sound like they’ll be called Dreglords instead of Nightlords. The first is a legion of armored women clad in white plate and equipped with what look to be Holy damage-infused polearms, while the second looks like a gigantic beast surrounded by bones and rubble that seemingly utilizes Scarlet Rot. Hope you find some Preserving Boluses on the Expedition leading up to that one!
Notably, the trailer’s description provides a simple overview of the narrative context of these new enemies, suggesting they’re some sort of undead born of the remains from Expeditions against the Nightlords.
“In our war against the Night, every battle left a scar,” it reads. “These wounds were given will. A foul life, born of cast-away souls. Steel your resolve, Nightfarers. This hunt must be seen to its end.”
All in all, everything coming in The Forsaken Hollows looks fantastic, and I can’t wait to jump back into Nightreign with my friends to play the new Nightfarers and challenge all the new enemies and bosses. The expansion is available to purchase for $15 across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows PC (Steam), PS5, and PS4 (it may appear as the DLC or the Deluxe Edition Upgrade).
If you bought the $55 Deluxe Edition of Elden Ring Nightreign, though, you’ll get access to its content the moment it releases. Note that this edition is on sale right now, with the Xbox version $44.89 at Loaded and the PC one $48.99 at Loaded; if you’re a new Nightreign player, taking advantage of these deals is the most affordable way to get the full suite of content from both the base game and the expansion.
