Netflix’s latest action blockbuster “War Machine” is still topping the charts for the third week in a row, and while I thought it was pretty run-of-the-mill, it’s easily the best of the genre in Netflix’s top 10 right now. If you’ve already binged “Reacher” season 3 and can’t get enough Alan Ritchson, you can find him fighting off an otherworldly in this quintessential dad action movie that’s a mix between “Predator” and part “War of the Worlds.” “War Machine” is a great popcorn thriller to wile away a weekend afternoon, even if its ending is a little clumsy. This would have stuck the landing for me if Netflix wasn’t so clearly eager to turn it into a franchise, which killed the momentum for me.

“K-Pop Demon Hunters” now has a little “Oscar winner” tag that warms my heart to see. Netflix’s most-streamed movie of all time doesn’t seem like it’s leaving the top 10 anytime soon, so I am once again here to tell folks to watch it if they haven’t yet. It’s a fun, earworm-filled romp that you don’t need to know anything about K-pop to follow along. “K-Pop Demon Hunters” centers on three K-pop stars, Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo), who shield the world from supernatural evils with their harmony. But when a group of demons disguised as a rival boy band come for their crown, they’ll have to dig deep and bring some long-buried secrets to light to have any hopes of saving the world.

I wasn’t sure who exactly was demanding a sequel to “Nobody,” Bob Odenkirk’s solid turn as an action star back in 2021, but clearly Netflix subscribers are eating it up. It wasted no time crashing the top 10 after arriving on the platform last week, hanging strong in the #2 spot. With a lean 90-minute runtime, this action thriller packs in just the right balance of gory goodness and crowd-pleasing mayhem. Odenkirk returns as the retired assassin Hutch Mansell, who heads out with his family on a long-overdue vacation to try and leave his violent past behind. Of course, that’s easier said than done. It’s not long before their island time turns into violent time as Hutch clashes with the town’s crooked sheriff (Colin Hanks), who’s secretly under the humb of a ruthless crime boss, Lendina (Sharon Stone). If you enjoyed the scrappy fun of the original “Nobody,” this sequel delivers another punchy, high-energy ride.
