Abracon Announces Adhesive Mount LTE Cat-M and GNSS Puck Antenna for IoT Applications

Abracon has introduced an adhesive-mount puck antenna designed to support LTE Cat-M, NB-IoT, and GNSS connectivity in compact IoT devices. The antenna addresses interference challenges that can arise when LTE signals generate second harmonics capable of affecting GNSS reception, particularly in applications requiring reliable positioning alongside cellular connectivity.

The antenna integrates pre-filtering to improve GNSS performance in high-interference environments. It is housed in an IP67-rated enclosure measuring 59.5 × 52.5 × 16.5 mm and combines an LTE Cat-M antenna with a multi-constellation active GNSS antenna. The GNSS section includes a low-noise amplifier with a gain of 28 ± 3 dB, while the LTE section is specified with an efficiency of up to 76 %. The design has been tested across LTE and GNSS bands to evaluate performance under combined operation.

According to the provided specifications, the antenna is designed for low current consumption, with an operating current specified down to 15 mA, and supports customizable cable lengths and connector options. The rugged enclosure is intended for outdoor and industrial environments where weather resistance is required.

The antenna is targeted at LTE Cat-M and NB-IoT modules used in applications such as asset tracking, logistics, telematics control units, smart metering, smart cities, healthcare equipment, industrial IoT systems, security and alarm systems, energy and infrastructure deployments, and agricultural and environmental monitoring. Additional listed use cases include traffic control and monitoring, data network centers, video surveillance systems, smart grid systems, and industrial computing.

The product is described as RoHS-compliant and rated at MSL Level 1, supporting deployment in systems that require combined cellular connectivity and GNSS positioning within a single antenna assembly.
