Paramount+ is the perfect streaming service for building your next movie marathon. It adds dozens of movies at the beginning of each month; it just added 82 new movies and shows on May 1. Plus, it adds new movies from Paramount Skydance studios on an ongoing basis.
With so many newly added movies to choose from, though, it can be tough to know which movie to start with. The good news for you is that I’ve looked through the full list, and I’ve found the three movies you need to watch first this weekend. This week I’m going with “Hamburger Hill,” an acclaimed but somewhat forgotten Vietnam War film. I’m also recommending my favorite stoner comedy movie of all time, and a Will Smith sports biopic that earned a pair of Oscar nominations.

Malcolm McMillan
Malcolm has been with Tom’s Guide since 2022. He watches dozens of movies every year so you don’t have to watch any bad ones.
‘Ali’ (2001)
Genre: Sports biopic movie
What’s it about? “Ali” stars Will Smith as the legendary boxer Cassius Clay Jr., aka Muhammad Ali. It follows the iconic pugilist from his first championship-winning bout against Sonny Liston to The Rumble in the Jungle against George Foreman.
Why you should watch it: Despite Michael Mann directing this biopic, the reviews were not overwhelmingly positive when it premiered in 2001. But what was undeniable was Smith’s performance as Ali. It would earn him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor, the first of three such nominations he would receive in his career to date.

‘Hamburger Hill’ (1987)
Genre: War drama movie
What’s it about? This war drama covers the 1969 Battle of Hamburger Hill, which was a Pyrrhic victory for the U.S. The U.S. Army’s 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division. Following a platoon within the 3rd Battalion, this war film shows how the soldiers managed to ultimately win the day, but at a terrible cost, in what is still considered to be a military disaster by most.
Why you should watch it: “Hamburger Hill” is a Vietnam War movie that manages to separate itself from the pack, not least of all because it has a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. It features an incredible ensemble cast that includes Dylan McDermott, Don Cheadle and Courtney B. Vance, and that alone is reason enough to watch this classic.

‘Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle’ (2004)
Genre: Stoner comedy movie
What’s it about? Friends and roommates Harold Lee (John Cho) and Kumar Patel (Kal Penn) get high and decide to go to White Castle for burgers. But what should have been a quick drive for fast food turns into an all-night odyssey.
Why you should watch it: This movie is the best stoner comedy. It’s one of the best movies ever made. It’s an incredible comedy littered with poignant social commentary. Plus, it has a supporting cast that includes Ryan Reynolds, Neil Patrick Harris and more. Don’t miss this one while it’s on Paramount+.
