I’ve made it abundantly clear how much I enjoy the Halo franchise. I practically jump at the chance to mention it whenever I can, and because of that, I was always disappointed that I never got the chance to properly play Halo: Fireteam Raven.
For those unaware, Fireteam Raven is an on-rails arcade shooter set during the events of Halo: Combat Evolved. Players take on the role of a group of ODSTs, starting you off aboard the Pillar of Autumn, the same ship where Halo: Combat Evolved begins, and then proceeding down to the Halo ring.
The game has long been locked away in arcade machines, much to my dismay. I’ve always thought it would be great if Halo Studios brought it to consoles, but since that likely isn’t happening anytime soon, it seems some fans have taken matters into their own hands, as the game’s ROM recently appeared online.
While I can’t share it for obvious legal reasons, it’s still nice to know the game is out there for those willing to go looking for it.
While sharing the ROM isn’t something I can do, it’s also not something I’d recommend you do either, just for the record. That said, there is actually a fairly active community dedicated to preserving and playing older arcade games, with TeknoParrot being one of the most popular emulators used for that purpose.
I believe TeknoParrot requires a subscription for some features, though, and even access to Fireteam Raven, and I’m not entirely sure whether I can even link to it here due to whatever legal issues might exist around how that software works.
More than anything, I just thought this was cool. It also gives me an opportunity to plead with Microsoft and Halo Studios to release the game on Xbox and PC with achievements so I can finally buy it and add another 100% completion to my Halo collection, something I seem determined to do with every game in the franchise.
But that’s just me. Have you ever had the chance to play Halo: Fireteam Raven, or is this your first time hearing about it? Let me know your thoughts in the comments, and be sure to take part in our poll!
