iPhone 18 RAM upgrade confirmed again along with good news about its price

According to a new rumor from Taiwan, the upcoming iPhone 18 will get 12GB of RAM. The iPhone 17, for comparison, only has 8GB. The added memory will be used to power the new Siri AI features with the most powerful on-device model, which requires a minimum of 12GB of RAM.

This will give Siri more expressive voices (along with sliders to personalize them), and will also enable major accuracy improvements for system-wide dictation. The iPhone 17 will miss out on these features when they’re released with iOS 27 in the fall, because of the fact that it only has 8GB of RAM.

Back in April another source claimed that the iPhone 18 would get 12GB of RAM, but the first rumor on the matter dates back to October of 2025. It’s good to have a confirmation now, since RAM prices are so high at the moment that Apple could have changed its mind.

Interestingly, Apple is now rumored to absorb the increased RAM prices itself, which means the iPhone 18 may actually launch at the same price as its predecessor ($799 in the US). That may ensure that Apple will have a big price advantage over its competitors making Android phones.

The iPhone 18 is expected to launch in spring 2027, alongside the iPhone 18e and possibly also the iPhone Air 2, while the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Ultra will all be unveiled this September.
