Kudu – Download – Softpedia

Much like anything that involves the word maintenance, performing system maintenance isn’t all that exciting, so it’s not a surprise that lots of users choose to ignore it instead. Windows has gotten better at handling these tasks by itself, but a dedicated tool doesn’t hurt. Kudu is a modern take on system maintenance.

The program goes very in-depth when it comes to cleanup and system maintenance tasks, as evidenced by its well-rounded toolset. Yet despite the many options at your disposal, Kudu is not at all confusing to work with, making it a viable choice even for a less knowledgeable user.

System maintenance, with everything it entails

There’s a wide assortment of maintenance tools out there, and often it is the implementation that is the tie breaker. Kudu is free and open-source, and it targets several areas of system maintenance to make things easier.

You’ve got a general cleaner that deals with temp files and various types of system and program cache, registry and startup optimizers, a network cleanup tool, as well as a program uninstaller and updater. Each of these worked just as expected, which is to say that everything went well as I encountered no issues during my testing.

An interesting addition comes in the form of the Performance and Disk Analyzer menus, where users can monitor their machine and scan their drives to get a clean overview of their storage allocation. The UI works especially well as it tells you everything you’d want to know without it feeling overwhelming.

Some amenities to further help you optimize your machine

One very nice feature is System Hardening, by which you can make your Windows more privacy-oriented by turning off the many opt-out telemetry settings, among other things. The program displays a description under each setting, making it easy to decide what to keep and what to do away with.

Interestingly, a Malware Scanner component is also provided to help you scan for any potentially malicious actors on your system. It features heuristic analysis and also integrates with Windows Defender to provide a more thorough assessment of your system.
