The best James Bond game in a very long time, 007 First Light revives the character in brilliant style. Telling the origin story of the would-be spy, the game is a combination of sandbox-like, open-ended missions and linear set pieces and narrative moments, resulting in a highly appealing blockbuster. It tells a decent story, establishes fantastic new takes on well-known characters, and sets a solid foundation with great espionage and action gameplay.

Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition is a wonderful example of modernising a classic game, providing new quality of life features and a fresh coat of paint while retaining its original feel. For hardcore RTS fans who are itching to pick something new up this is a must buy, and an adaptable AI difficulty level means there’s something for everyone.
$19.99/£17.49 (-50%)
ARC Raiders is a phenomenal showcase of what immersive multiplayer can be. Every run is different, and your squad will come out with stories to tell each time. It can be tougher on those planning to play solo, and the extraction loop won’t be for everyone. But as far as extraction shooters go, this is one of the most accessible, and it respects your time, giving you a fun experience from your first match. We can easily say that ARC Raiders is one of the best multiplayer games this generation.

Axiom Verge is PlayStation’s very own Metroid. That may sound a teensy bit degrading, but there’s no denying that this and Nintendo’s own space-faring adventure have more than a few things in common. Still, if being compared to one of the most beloved game series of all time isn’t a compliment, then we don’t know what is. If you’ve never seen the appeal of these types of games, then chances are this won’t change your mind. Devoted fans of the genre, however, will no doubt adore Tom Happ’s opus.
$17.99/£14.99 (-70%)
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden marries an excellent narrative with engaging and enjoyable gameplay. Poor enemy variety and technical flaws hold it back from true greatness, but its excellent, story-focused side quests on the other side make a few drab combat encounters worth pushing through. The studio’s best game to date, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is a new IP we hope is here to stay.
$27.99/£27.99 (-60%)
Battlefield 6 is a phenomenal multiplayer experience that immerses and impresses with its chaotic mix of tight gunplay, best-in-class audio design, and the cinematic flair that made us love the series in the first place. The campaign isn’t anything to write home about, and Portal has yet to fully prove its worth, but they act as additions to what is easily the best Battlefield in over a decade.
$9.99/£8.99 (-80%)
BioShock: The Collection is just what it says on the tin: all three of the fan favourite games in one place, and remastered for play on PS4. The first is a true modern classic, introducing us to the unsettling undersea city of Rapture, while the sequels build on what it achieves in some very interesting ways. Each game places you in a fascinating setting that’s in the midst of falling apart, and a mix of guns and powers make them a unique set of shooters. These are bold, unusual games that stand out thanks to their incredible worlds and subversive narratives.
$7.49/£6.24 (-75%)
Blasphemous 2 takes the foundations of its well-received predecessor and builds upon it in all the right ways. Tweaking combat to make it faster, smoother, and more accurate, removing insta-death scenarios to make platforming more manageable, and packing the game full to the brim with secrets and collectibles. The great attention to detail in the presentation and high level of polish make Blasphemous 2 a delightfully memorable experience that players will look back on fondly for years to come.
$7.99/£6.39 (-60%)
Cat Quest 3 builds upon the first two entries in this cult favourite series, offering up maybe the best one yet. With a pirate theme introducing nautical traversal and combat, this is a more expansive action RPG that keeps things simple, with that signature illustrated art style and cheeky humour. Those after a lighthearted adventure need look no further.
$17.49/£34.99 (-75%/-50%)
Sony comfortably hooked the enthusiast crowd by adding Demon’s Souls to the PS5’s launch lineup. FromSoftware’s legendary action RPG – which would go on to spawn the so-called Soulsborne series and, eventually, even Elden Ring – was snubbed by the Japanese giant during the PS3 era, as it felt early builds were simply not up to snuff. Publishers like Atlus and Bandai Namco eventually picked it up, and it went on to become a cult classic. Perhaps as a tacit admission that it made a mistake, its recruited tech specialists Bluepoint Games to remake the game for a modern era – and the results are remarkable. This version uses original PS3 code to make for an incredibly authentic experience, but its visuals are among some of the best you’ll find on Sony’s new-gen console. It’s an extraordinary blend of old and new that comes highly recommended.
$14.99/£11.99 (-25%)
Denshattack is an explosively kinetic arcade game that delivers one of the most concentrated punches of fun on PS5. Through its ridiculous train-tricking premise and complex but satisfying gameplay, it exudes a light-hearted, optimistic energy through its story as well as its design, which introduces new ideas right through to the end. Once the controls click, it’s just a joy to play.
$4.49/£3.74 (-85%)
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided had a lot to live up to following up the hit series revival, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and it almost managed it. While it doesn’t quite measure up in terms of its narrative, the immersive sim is still a strong sci-fi adventure with fantastic environments to explore and flexible gameplay the series is known for. While stealth is largely the way to go, you’re given ample opportunities to go about objectives your own way.
$9.99/£8.74 (-75%)
DmC: Devil May Cry – Definitive Edition is one of the more thoughtful remasters on the PS4, and its emphasis on modifiers means that you can more or less tailor the experience to your tastes. We’re still not sure whether old-school Devil May Cry fans will allow themselves to enjoy Ninja Theory’s take on the series, but many of the tweaks have been designed with those outspoken individuals in mind. For everyone else, the Cambridge-based company’s confident take on Capcom’s character action classic is well worth playing – and even if its previous generation hallmarks are still present, its upscaled visuals and boosted framerate make this particular edition heaven sent.
