At European Microwave Week (EuMW) 2026, ERZIA showcased its new Space COTS product line for satellite and orbital applications. The portfolio includes high-power amplifiers (HPAs) and low-noise amplifiers (LNAs) that have been adapted from ERZIA’s commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) designs to meet the environmental and reliability requirements of space missions.
At their booth, everything RF met Elena Al Khalaf, Key Account Manager at ERZIA, who explained how the Space COTS family differs from the company’s standard amplifier portfolio. The amplifiers incorporate radiation-tolerant components, outgassing-compliant materials, vacuum-ready housings, and enhanced testing and analysis processes, enabling their use in orbital environments while maintaining the faster delivery times often required by New Space programs.
European Microwave Week was held from 4-9 October in London this year. It is Europe’s premier RF and microwave event that brings together leading companies, researchers, and engineers from the RF, microwave, millimeter-wave, and radar industries to showcase the latest developments in high-frequency technologies.
Space COTS Amplifiers for the New Space Market
ERZIA’s Space COTS portfolio is designed to bridge the gap between traditional commercial RF hardware and fully space-qualified systems. Rather than developing custom hardware from the ground up, the company adapts proven amplifier designs with the materials, components, and qualification processes needed for orbital operation.
The HPAs and LNAs in the Space COTS range include radiation-tolerant components to address the effects of the space environment, while outgassing-compliant materials and vacuum-ready housings help ensure compatibility with spacecraft operating conditions. These adaptations are intended to support a wide range of satellite communication, telemetry, and space-based RF systems.
A key aspect of the portfolio is the environmental testing performed on the amplifiers. ERZIA stated that the units undergo a ten-cycle thermal vacuum (TVAC) test across a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. Thermal-vacuum testing is used to verify that RF equipment can continue operating reliably while exposed to the temperature extremes and vacuum conditions encountered during space missions.
Fast Delivery Without Compromising Quality
Fast delivery is one of the key advantages of the Space COTS product line, as shorter development cycles are often associated with the growing New Space sector. Elena emphasized that delivery speed does not come at the expense of quality, noting that all units are built and tested to meet the demanding standards required by the space industry. ERZIA also makes datasheets, part numbers, and environmental qualification information available through its website, allowing customers to review technical specifications and environmental ratings before selecting products for their missions.
At EuMW 2026, ERZIA demonstrated how commercial RF amplifier technology can be adapted for space deployment through environmental hardening, specialized materials, and rigorous qualification testing. The showcase highlighted the industry’s growing focus on providing readily available RF hardware for satellite and orbital applications while maintaining the reliability required for operation in space.
European Microwave Week 2026 showcased the latest developments in satellite communications, aerospace and defense, radar, semiconductors, antennas, RF components, and test and measurement technologies. From space-ready RF hardware and advanced connectivity solutions to next-generation microwave systems, the event highlighted many of the innovations shaping the future of high-frequency engineering.
