Hemisphere GNSS and Calian Collaborate to Develop Multi Constellation GNSS Antenna

Hemisphere GNSS, a brand of CNH (NYSE: CNH), together with Calian Group Ltd. (TSX: CGY), has introduced the A65 GNSS (global navigation satellite system) antenna, which has been jointly developed as a next-generation design. The antenna has been engineered to provide improved positional accuracy, interference mitigation, and GNSS signal tracking performance.

The A65 has resulted from coordinated development efforts between Hemisphere GNSS and Calian. It has been designed as a form-factor-compatible replacement for the A45 antenna, allowing existing users to transition to updated performance characteristics without modifying system interfaces or mounting configurations.

The collaboration has focused on integrating advanced radio-frequency design with operational application requirements to address increasingly challenging GNSS environments. Both teams have worked together from the initial development phases to satisfy stringent Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) performance criteria.

Collaborative Design and System Contributions

The A65 has been developed through a joint effort between Hemisphere GNSS and Calian, combining complementary technical capabilities. Calian has been responsible for the core antenna architecture, including the stacked patch quad-feed element and the radio-frequency front-end design. Hemisphere GNSS has contributed application-level knowledge, system integration requirements, and performance validation across machine control, agriculture, marine, and surveying environments.

The resulting antenna has demonstrated improved performance characteristics, including reduced multipath effects, stable phase center behavior, and consistent signal tracking across multiple global and regional navigation systems. These include GPS (L1, L2, L5), Galileo (E1, E5, E6), BeiDou (B1, B2, B3), GLONASS (G1, G2, G3), NavIC L5, QZSS, and L-band correction services. The design has also incorporated reduced power consumption and wide supply-voltage compatibility. Together, the two organizations have validated that the A65 met field deployment requirements and exceeded the measured performance levels of the A45 antenna.

Interference Mitigation

The A65 has incorporated Calian’s XF Filtering technology as part of the joint engineering effort. This interference mitigation approach has attenuated out-of-band signals at the antenna level, improving received signal quality in environments with elevated radio-frequency interference.

The filtering system has been designed to reduce susceptibility to emissions from cellular networks, adjacent-band satellite services, broadband marine and aviation transmitters, and other industrial or urban RF sources. Integration of this filtering approach with application-level system requirements has resulted in improved signal stability and operational reliability under field conditions.

Mechanical and Electrical Compatibility

The A65 had been designed as a form-factor-compatible replacement for the A45 antenna. It has retained the same mechanical footprint, connector position, and mounting configuration, allowing installation without changes to existing system hardware. The enclosure has maintained a ruggedized, weather-resistant construction. Performance enhancements over the earlier design include expanded GNSS band coverage, integrated interference filtering, improved noise characteristics, lower power consumption, and increased resistance to mechanical shock, vibration, and environmental stress.

Environmental Qualification

The antenna design has been validated through laboratory qualification and field testing conducted by both organizations. Environmental characteristics included IP69K ingress protection, a high-impact polymer radome with a metallic base, and integrated electrostatic discharge protection. The radio-frequency chain has incorporated a low-noise amplifier with high gain and low noise figure, and the operating temperature range spans from –40 °C to +85 °C. These characteristics have supported long-term deployment across agricultural, surveying, machine control, marine, and fixed reference applications.

Product Availability

The A65 GNSS antenna has been made commercially available through Hemisphere GNSS. In addition, OEM antenna modules based on the same Calian-designed architecture had been offered for system integrators requiring embedded implementations.
