Good sleep is important any night of the week. But the night before running 26.2 miles, it’s pretty crucial. Without it, neither your body or mind would be up to the enduring challenge over 1.1 millions runners globally now complete each year.
Having just completed my second marathon, I’ve learnt a thing or two about endurance running. Put simply: 1) It’s a mental as much as a physical challenge. 2) Carbs are good for you. 3) Quality sleep is your best friend.
When I spoke to sports chiropractor and practitioner Dr. Logan Sherman ahead of running the London Marathon last year, he told me: “Sleep is one of the most important recovery tools. Training for a marathon demands a huge energy expenditure, and getting enough sleep helps your body and mind bounce back stronger and faster between workouts.”
“Keeping your mind sharp is just as crucial as training your lungs and legs,” the athletic performance specialist added.
