Windows 11 KB5083631 update released with major explorer.exe reliability upgrades, AI agent support, Xbox mode, and more


Microsoft has released Windows 11‘s optional non-security preview update for April 2026, which includes a number of new improvements and changes designed to make the OS more reliable and easy to use. The update, marked KB5083631, is now available and includes the new Xbox mode that was announced as generally available earlier today, along with reliability improvements to explorer.exe, a new haptic feedback engine, an updated drop tray share menu, support for AI agents on the Taskbar, and more.

It’s a big quality of life update that includes a lot of changes that many users will appreciate. File Explorer is gaining several improvements tied to the explorer.exe reliability updates, including the removal of the annoying white flash bug in dark mode, and support for more archive formats such as uu, cpio, xar, and NuGet Packages (nupkg).
