This June, Boston will host the global microwave and RF community. The 2026 IEEE International MTT Symposia (IMS2026) convenes 7-12 June 2026 at the Thomas M. Menino Convention and Exhibition Center (MCEC), bringing 500+ exhibiting companies and more than 8,000 engineers, researchers, academics and technology leaders from around the world to Boston.
The engineers coming to Boston are building the systems behind the wireless networks, defense communications, autonomous vehicles, and semiconductor chips that Boston’s hospitals, universities and defense contractors rely on.
A week full of coverage opportunities:
- IEEE MTT-S RF Integrated Circuits (RFIC) Symposium: Integrated circuit design and semiconductor technologies, including integrated passives, photonic technology, packaging strategies, and front-end performance (7-9 June 2026)
- IEEE MTT-S RF Systems & Applications (RFSA) Symposium: Real-world RF and microwave system architectures and applications, examining how these technologies perform across automotive, aerospace, telecom, and emerging connectivity platforms (8-11 June 2026)
- IEEE MTT-S RF Technology & Techniques (RFTT) Symposium: Advanced techniques, algorithms, and emerging research directions, including next-generation waveforms, quantum RF, and sensing applications (8-11 June 2026)
- ARFTG Microwave Measurement Conference: Measurement science and validation, with emphasis on deployment readiness and performance verification (12 June 2026)
- The IMS Exhibition brings together 500+ companies, including 91 first-time exhibitors, showcasing the latest in wireless communications, defense systems, semiconductor technologies, and advanced sensing (9-11 June 2026).
4 Reasons to Attend IMS2026
1. A Global Gathering, Right Here in Boston
Thousands of engineers and researchers from 55 countries convene in Boston for a week of technical exchange.
2. Boston’s Engineering Community Takes Center Stage
Boston has long been a hub for the technologies IMS covers, and this year, local voices are part of the program. Researchers and engineers from local companies and institutions like Analog Devices, MathWorks, Blueshift Technologies, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) are among those presenting new work at IMS2026 alongside peers from around the world. Their sessions cover wireless infrastructure, defense systems, semiconductor integration and advanced sensing technologies shaping industries across New England.
3. Boston Innovation on the Exhibit Floor
Boston-area institutions, including the University of Massachusetts Amherst, The Institute for NanoSystems Innovation at Northeastern University, MACOM, Microwave Engineering Corporation, and Diamond Antenna and Microwave Corporation are on the floor beside global players building the next generation of technologies that incorporate microwave and RF advancements.
4. Technologies Driving the Industries Boston Leads
The work at IMS2026 does not stay in the lab. 6G infrastructure will shape how Boston’s hospitals, universities and businesses communicate. Advances in autonomous vehicle radar are being tested on roads across the region. Defense sensing technologies discussed at IMS are tied to programs across New England. Cover the global story and find the Boston angle built right into it.
