RLC Electronics to Showcase a 13-Section C-Band Notch Filter at IMS 2026

RLC Electronics will present a 13-section C-band notch filter at IEEE IMS 2026 as a high-selectivity solution for narrowband interference suppression in UAV systems operating within the 4–8 GHz range. The filter achieves more than 100 dB attenuation in the reject band, enabling effective suppression of strong interferers while maintaining signal integrity in adjacent frequencies.

The design is based on a 13-section resonant architecture, where each section contributes to the overall transfer function. A higher section count enables steeper rejection skirts and deeper attenuation, allowing very narrowband suppression without impacting nearby channels. This is critical in spectrally dense environments where interfering signals are closely spaced to the desired signal. 

The device’s notch characteristics are tuned using adjustable gold screws on the top of the unit, providing precise post-fabrication control of the rejection bandwidth. This mechanical tuning approach enables high-Q in microwave filter implementations, where fine frequency adjustments are required to meet tight specifications. 

The device has an insertion loss below 1 dB outside the notch band and a continuous-wave power-handling capability of 50 W, supporting its use in high-power RF front-ends. Achieving this combination of deep rejection, low loss, and stable performance requires careful control of impedance matching, inter-resonator coupling, and parasitic effects, particularly at C-band frequencies. The design prioritizes maximum selectivity and isolation over simplicity, indicating a highly optimized, application-specific implementation rather than a standard catalog product. 

Custom Band-Reject Filters at RLC Electronics 

This filter reflects RLC Electronics’ work in custom notch (band-reject) filters, operating up to 40 GHz. The design can be adjusted by changing the structure, number of sections, and physical layout. These changes help control the center frequency, bandwidth, and rejection level. Using more sections improves attenuation and makes the transition sharper, which is important for removing narrowband interference. The 13-section design is a higher-order version built for strong isolation. The company offers these filters in both connectorized and surface-mount formats. Their designs are built to stay stable under environmental and operational stress, making them suitable for aerospace, defense, and other high-reliability systems. 

RLC Electronics develops passive RF and microwave components for signal conditioning and routing. Their products include filters, attenuators, and coaxial switches. They also offer power dividers, directional couplers, bias tees, and RF detectors.
