Outside of “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” it’s been a while since we’ve hung out with House Targaryen. In fact, it’s been a long two years since “House of the Dragon” season 2 offered up that polarizing finale, leaving fans eagerly awaiting their grand return to Westeros.
Luckily, that wait is almost over, with “HOTD” season 3 roaring its way onto HBO and HBO Max this month with a “big bloodbath” on the horizon to test Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), Daemon (Matt Smith), Alicent (Olivia Cooke), Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney) and the rest of the realm. Like the previous installments of the “Game of Thrones” prequel series, season 3 will have eight episodes total, though there are some supersized editions in the works. For example, that much-anticipated premiere will clock in at 72 minutes, 14 whole minutes more than the season 2 opener.
To get you fully prepped for the season ahead, here’s everything to know about the “House of the Dragon” season 3 episode release schedule, so you don’t miss one fiery moment.
‘House of the Dragon’ season 3 release date and time

As you’ll no doubt remember, this is also the coveted timeslot of fellow franchise titles including “Game of Thrones” and “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.” New episodes will continue each Sunday until the finale episode on Sunday, August 9.

What is ‘House of the Dragon’ season 3 about?
“The throne knows no mercy,” teases HBO about the upcoming season of “House of the Dragon,” and there certainly won’t be any leniency from either side—Team Black (the contingent that supports Rhaenyra as heir to the crown) versus Team Green (those that back her half-brother Aegon II Targaryen’s claim to the Iron Throne)—as they battle it out for control of the realm.
All of that simmering political tension from episodes past boils over into a brutal civil war, pulling to the screen several of the biggest battles from George R. R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood” book, including the deadly Battle of the Gullet. Altogether, it’s sounding like season 3 of the acclaimed HBO drama will be bigger, bloodier and more action-packed than ever. We can’t wait!
