
The 2027 IEEE International Microwave Symposium (IMS 2027) will be held in San Antonio, Texas, USA, from May 23 to 28 2027. IEEE MTT-S has announced the Call for Papers for its flagship microwave and RF event, inviting researchers, engineers, and industry professionals to submit original technical contributions covering the latest advances in RF, microwave, millimeter-wave, and terahertz technologies. Paper submissions are now open, with the symposium taking place during the 75th anniversary of the IEEE Microwave Theory and Technology Society (MTT-S) under the theme “Ride the Current.” The deadline for submitting papers is December 8, 2026.

IMS 2027 marks the second year of a strategic restructuring of the technical program, with the RF Integrated Circuits (RFIC), RF Systems & Applications (RFSA), and Radio Frequency Technology & Techniques (RFTT) symposia organized to provide attendees with more focused technical content aligned with their interests. In addition to technical paper presentations, the event will include IMS workshops, RFIC, RFSA, and RFTT symposia, Systems & Applications (S&A) workshops, the ARFTG conference, an extensive exhibition, plenary sessions, industry-hosted receptions, and the RF System Dialogue.
Authors are invited to submit original, high-quality technical papers describing innovations spanning frequencies from MHz to THz. Accepted papers will showcase advances in RF and microwave theory, components, circuits, systems, and applications across academia, industry, and government research. The symposium will continue to serve as a global forum for presenting emerging technologies that address next-generation wireless communications, sensing, radar, satellite systems, and other RF applications.
The RFIC Symposium will cover both fundamental RF integrated circuit building blocks and highly integrated RF subsystems. Technical areas include power amplifiers, low-noise amplifiers, oscillators, frequency synthesizers, transmitter circuits, front-end modules, mixed-signal circuits, data converters, and high-speed interconnects. The symposium also welcomes work on fully integrated solutions operating from sub-GHz to THz frequencies using SiGe, CMOS, SOI, and compound-semiconductor technologies, including heterogeneously integrated and advanced-packaged implementations.
Application areas span 5G/6G wireless, radar, satellite communications, IoT, sensing, imaging, biomedical systems, quantum and cryogenic technologies, wireline and optical links, and AI-assisted RFIC design. Authors are encouraged to submit papers supported by measured IC hardware results, while a dedicated Industry and Startup track will highlight commercially relevant innovations and emerging technologies.
Following its successful introduction in the IMS 2026, the RF Systems & Applications (RFSA) Symposium returns for its second edition at IMS 2027. The symposium focuses on system-level innovation across microwave communications and sensing technologies, encouraging contributions covering radar systems, wireless communications, phased arrays, biomedical applications, imaging systems, non-terrestrial communications, integrated sensing and communications (ISAC), and other emerging RF applications. In addition to technical sessions and interactive forums, RFSA 2027 will feature Systems & Applications workshops, panel discussions, plenary sessions, and the RF System Dialogue, a dedicated forum designed to strengthen collaboration between industry and academia.
With its expanded technical program, focused symposium tracks, and celebration of 75 years of IEEE MTT-S, IMS 2027 will bring together the global RF and microwave community to showcase the latest research, foster collaboration, and explore technologies shaping the future of wireless communications, sensing, and microwave engineering.
