AmpliTech Expands 5G Opportunities with Certified 4T8R O-RAN Radio for the US and Canadian Markets

AmpliTech Group has received Federal Communications Commission (FCC) certification in the United States and Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) certification in Canada for its Outdoor Macro Cell 4T8R Open RAN Radio Unit (AMP-4T8R-MPRU). The approvals allow the company to deploy and commercialize the radio platform across North America for public and private wireless network applications.

The certified radio supports 3GPP Bands n7 and n30, O-RAN 7.2 Category A fronthaul, LTE and 5G NR operation, and features an IP65-rated outdoor design for macro-cell deployments. The certifications confirm compliance with North American requirements related to RF performance, electromagnetic compatibility, safety, and wireless operation.

AmpliTech has developed the radio using a 4T8R architecture, which combines four transmit paths with eight receive paths. According to the company, this configuration provides improved uplink performance, greater receive diversity, enhanced beamforming support, and higher spectral efficiency compared to conventional 4T4R systems, while offering a lower-cost deployment option than traditional 8T8R solutions.

The platform has been designed to support emerging wireless network trends, including Open RAN, cloud-native network architectures, edge computing, private 5G deployments, and AI-driven network optimization. The enhanced receive architecture is intended to provide additional uplink information that can be used for applications like intelligent beam management, spectrum optimization, predictive maintenance, automated fault detection, energy management, mobility optimization, and self-organizing networks.

The radio is targeted at a range of deployment scenarios, including nationwide 5G networks, Open RAN modernization projects, enterprise private 5G networks, Industry 4.0 environments, smart manufacturing facilities, mining operations, utilities, ports, airports, logistics hubs, healthcare facilities, fixed wireless access deployments, public safety networks, transportation systems, defense communications infrastructure, and smart city applications.

Receiving FCC and ISED certifications represents a major milestone in the commercialization of our expanding Open RAN product portfolio. Our innovative 4T8R architecture was developed to address the evolving needs of mobile operators by delivering enhanced uplink performance, improved spectral efficiency, and AI-ready capabilities while maintaining a more cost-effective deployment profile than traditional higher-order radio systems,” said Fawad Maqbool, Chief Executive Officer of AmpliTech Group. “As the industry accelerates adoption of AI-RAN, Open RAN, and Private 5G technologies, we believe our differentiated radio platform is well positioned to help customers build more intelligent, efficient, and future-ready wireless networks.”
