If you’re looking to find what new movies and shows Netflix is adding this week, I’ve got you covered. The streaming service is adding just 14 new movies and shows this week. But there are quite a few titles still worth adding to your watchlist.
Right now, you can stream the hit sci-fi horror movie, “M3GAN,” which just dropped on Netflix this morning (August 24). It’s still not the biggest movie coming to Netflix this week, though. That honor belongs to “The Whisper Man,” a brand new crime thriller movie starring Robert De Niro. For those who prefer a laugh to a dark crime film, don’t sleep on “Leanne” season 2. The hit comedy series returns to Netflix this Thursday.
Speaking of returning to Netflix, the documentary franchise “Untold” is back with “Untold: The Testimony of Vince Young.” But I’m probably looking forward to “Stamptown” more than anything else. It’s the latest comedy special from Zach Zucker, aka Jack Tucker, and I promise you won’t be able to stop laughing.

‘The Whisper Man’
Genre: Crime thriller movie
What it’s about: “The Whisper Man” stars Adam Scott as Tom Kennedy, a successful crime writer. His son, Jack (Acston Luca Porto), is abducted, forcing Tom to turn to his estranged father (Robert De Niro), a former police detective, for help. But when they discover Jack might have been taken by someone purporting to be a convicted serial killer known as “The Whisper Man,” suddenly they have more questions than answers.
Why you should watch it: The trailer for this looks properly creepy. But I’m more excited by the cast than anything I saw. In addition to Scott and De Niro, this movie also stars Michael Keaton, Hamish Linklater and Michelle Monaghan. “The Whisper Man” is definitely one for the watchlist this week.

‘Leanne’ season 2
Genre: Situational comedy series
What’s it about? “Leanne” stars Leanne Morgan as Leanne, a newly single woman after her husband leaves her out of the blue. Carol (Kristen Johnston), Leanne’s sister, is determined to get her back in the dating game. But now, she’s also dealing with the added wrinkle of her parents moving in with her and the renewed presence of her (now ex) husband (Ryan Stiles).
Why you need to watch it: If you like a network sitcom like “Two and a Half Men” and “The Big Bang Theory,” then “Leanne” will be right up your alley. That’s because it comes from the mind of Chuck Lorre, who created all three of those shows.

‘Untold: The Testimony of Vince Young’
Genre: Sports documentary movie
What it’s about: Vince Young was a legend at the University of Texas, where he won a college football championship in 2005. In “Untold: The Testimony of Vince Young,” the former NFL quarterback recounts his rise to that moment and the fall that came in the years after.
Why you should watch it: “Untold” has been an excellent addition to Netflix, providing some great documentary movies. If you’re someone who enjoys “Hard Knocks” or “30 for 30,” definitely check out this sports documentary.

‘Stamptown’
Genre: Stand-up comedy special
What it’s about: Zack Zucker is a comedian who has done everything from Netflix Is a Joke to Glastonbury and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. But you might not know him by that name. Instead, you might know him as Jack Tucker, a bafoonish comedian who’s Zucker’s alter ego and undeniably hilarious. “Stamptown” is Tucker/Zucker’s regular variety show that he performs, and now he’s bringing a special taping of it to Netflix.
Why you should watch it: I first saw Zucker/Tucker on TikTok, where he does a joke about how nobody knows who the Baha Men are. The punchline is when he then brings one of the Baha Men out on stage. I’ve been watching his comedy ever since, and it makes me laugh uncontrollably every time.

‘M3GAN’
Genre: Sci-fi horror movie
What it’s about: “M3GAN” stars Amie Donald as M3GAN, aka Model 3 Generative ANdroid. She’s an AI-powered doll built by Gemma (Allison Williams) for her niece, Cady (Violet McGraw). Things take an unexpected turn, though, when M3GAN starts killing everything she deems a threat to Cady, including the neighbors.
Why you should watch it: This sci-fi horror flick was an unexpected hit when it came out in 2023. The sequel didn’t measure up, but the original is definitely worth a watch while it’s on Netflix.
