Classic Repair Toolbox (formerly Commodore Repair Toolbox) – Download

Commodore Repair Toolbox is a small application designed to assist with repairing and diagnosing vintage Commodore computers and peripherals. While these PCs are no longer used, they still have a dedicated fanbase among retro enthusiasts, collectors and hobbyists.

Provides schematics for Commodore computers and components

The application comes with an atypical interface that consists of various schematics. In the left side you have several categories from where you can select the hardware, board, components categories and lists. Based on what you choose, a schematic with the parts is displayed in the larger, right panel.

The direct advantage of this tool is that it saves you a lot of time that otherwise you’d spend looking through manuals and guides. You can easily look at these diagrams, zoom in and out, find specific components, see how the computer chips are wired exactly and even read some technical documents that explain how everything works. This way, it may be easier for you to figure out what’s broken and how to fix it.

For the time being, the information included with this tool is rather limited to Commodore 128 and 128D. However, the developer plans to include more details, datasheets and information in the future.

Allows you to add your own schematics

Even though it’s mainly designed for Commodore computers, you’ll be happy to learn that you can also add your own schematics and technical data. If you have an old computer you want to tweak or fix or want to fill in missing info, you can include your own information to help you with repairs.

At this point, you are probably wondering if you could use Commodore Repair Toolbox to deal with repairs for newer computers. Unfortunately, the app seems less useful for new computers because modern hardware is more complex, and manufacturers don’t typically provide detailed repair schematics.
