Huawei introduced the nova 16 and 16 Pro to the Chinese market at the start of June. These two are now ready for their global debut, kind of – as has become the norm for the company, the global versions get an “s” tagged on to their name.
The Huawei nova 16s Pro preserves the Pro’s highlight – a 200MP RYYB sensor for the main camera (f/1.8 lens with OIS). This is helped out by a 1.5MP multi-spectral sensor for scene-specific color calibration. Also on the back are a 50MP RYYB 3.7x periscope (f/2.6 lens with OIS) and a 50MP RYYB ultra-wide (118° FoV, 2.5cm macro mode). The selfie camera uses a standard 50MP sensor.

The Pro model packs a 6.84” LTPO OLED display (1-120Hz) with 6,000 nits peak brightness (1% APL) and 4,000 nits dynamic peak brightness (20% APL). Brightness is controlled via 2,160Hz high-frequency PWM dimming.
Like its Chinese sibling, the 16s Pro features a large 7,000mAh battery with fast 100W Huawei SuperCharge Turbo (USB-C 2.0 port). The phone is slender at just 7.1mm thick, but it is surprisingly heavy at 218g.
The body features an aerospace-grade aluminum alloy mid-frame, while the front is protected by Kunlun Glass with a nano-crystal coating. This makes it 10x more drop resistant than the nova 15.
The nova 16s Pro has a 200MP RYYB main camera and a 7,000mAh battery
It may be September, but Huawei is still feeling the summer vibes with the wave-inspired design that comes in four colors: Isle Blue, Breathing Crystal, Starry Black and Sky White.
The Huawei nova 16s is a mid-sized phone with a 6.68” display. This one features a 50MP camera as part of its “True-to-Colour Camera” setup. This includes a 50MP RYYB 3.3x periscope camera (OIS).

While this one is smaller and still quite thin at 7.3mm, it houses the same 7,000mAh battery with the same 100W Huawei SuperCharge Turbo (and the same USB-C 2.0 port). The base models have 256GB storage along with a 512GB upgrade.
Both phones launch with Huawei’s EMUI 16.0 instead of HarmonyOS. The Pro model runs on a Kirin 9010S chipset, while the vanilla nova 16s uses a Kirin 8020.

The cameras on both phones are aided by several AI features. AI Composition offers real-time feedback to help you improve the framing of your photos. AI Move lets you seamlessly reposition objects, while AI Remove can get rid of unwanted objects. AI Best Expression uses everyone’s best smile for the final photo, while AI De-Glare removes reflections from glass and other glossy surfaces.
