TUFF-FLEX VNA is one of three specialized product families within ConductRF’s growing True VNA RF Test Cable platform. Rather than designing a single test cable to address every VNA application, ConductRF has developed three complementary cable architectures around the different mechanical and electrical demands engineers encounter during precision RF measurement.
TUFF-FLEX VNA™ emphasizes ruggedness and durability through 40 GHz. HI-FLEX VNA™ emphasizes maneuverability and electrical stability during frequent cable movement through 70 GHz. APEX VNA™ extends the platform into precision mm-wave measurements through 120 GHz.
When the Test Cable Has to Take the Abuse
VNA measurements depend upon the electrical and phase stability of the complete measurement path. In high-use test environments, however, the test cable is also a mechanical component that may be repeatedly handled, routed, flexed, connected and disconnected throughout its service life.
TUFF-FLEX VNA cables were developed specifically for applications in which that physical environment demands a more rugged solution.
The assemblies combine precision RF performance with reinforced mechanical construction designed to withstand frequent handling, torsional forces, bending and crushing. A stainless-steel spiral conduit armor protects the internal cable structure against excessive bending and mechanical damage, helping preserve the integrity of the test interconnect over repeated use.
This makes TUFF-FLEX particularly well suited for high volume engineering laboratories, automated test systems, production test stations and other RF and microwave measurement environments where cables can experience substantially greater mechanical stress than they would during occasional benchtop use.
Precision Performance Through 40 GHz
Standard TUFF-FLEX VNA configurations support frequencies through 40 GHz with 50 ohm impedance and connector interfaces including SMA, Type-N, TNC, 3.5 mm and 2.92 mm (K) configurations.
Depending upon the selected cable and configuration, TUFF-FLEX assemblies provide crush resistance ranging up to 1,050 lb/in., shielding effectiveness greater than 100 dB and mating life up to 5,000 cycles.
The result is a test cable designed not simply to survive a demanding test environment, but to provide the electrical consistency required of the measurement interconnect operating within it.
Choosing the Right True VNA Cable
TUFF-FLEX is deliberately not positioned as the universal answer for every VNA application. Where engineers frequently reposition DUTs or manipulate cables during tuning and characterization, ConductRF offers HI-FLEX VNA™, a more maneuverable, lightly armored solution designed to minimize flex force while supporting precision measurements through 70 GHz.
For advanced mm-wave measurements, APEX VNA™ extends the True VNA platform through 120 GHz using precision 1.0 mm interfaces and a flexible construction optimized for ultra-high frequency measurement environments.
Together, the three families allow engineers to select a VNA test interconnect around the actual requirements of the measurement environment: ruggedness, flexibility or maximum frequency capability.
