PHY Wireless, a pioneer in edge-based cellular positioning technology for massive IoT and next-generation 5G SA & 6G wireless networks, announced a collaboration with Surfact, a provider of intelligent tracking solutions for perishable goods logistics, to improve tracking frequency, extend battery life and enhance visibility across cold-chain and food transportation operations.
GPS-based systems can consume significant power and can perform inconsistently in containers, warehouses and other challenging logistics environments where satellite signals are blocked or degraded. Cellular signals are specifically engineered to provide reliable coverage deep inside buildings, shipping containers and other hard-to-reach locations. PHY Wireless’s edge-based cellular positioning technology leverages these existing network signals to calculate location directly on the device, delivering accurate positioning with significantly lower power consumption while supporting more frequent location updates and longer battery life.
Surfact develops ruggedized tracking devices that monitor the location, condition and integrity of temperature-sensitive goods throughout the supply chain. As demand grows for greater visibility into perishable shipments, logistics providers are increasingly challenged to deliver more frequent location updates without sacrificing battery life or increasing operational complexity.
