The only thing I bought for Prime Day is the Amazon Smart Air Quality Monitor at 33% off — and it could save your life

Just the other night, a piercing siren woke me and everyone else in my house up in the dead of night. Half awake, I made my way downstairs only to find out it was our carbon monoxide detector going off. We called emergency services, and before I knew it, the entire neighborhood was lit up with fire trucks and emergency vehicles descending on our home.

After checking the house for carbon monoxide levels, first responders gave us the all-clear to head back inside. I still don’t know why that sensor triggered, but the scare was enough to make me immediately order another Amazon Smart Air Quality Monitor.

While its primary role is keeping tabs on everyday indoor air quality, it also tracks carbon monoxide levels. With a 33% discount on it right now, I couldn’t pass up this Prime Day offer — especially after what happened the night before.

I’ve had the Amazon Smart Air Quality Monitor running continuously for over three years now, and despite being the gadget I interact with the least, it does a whole lot behind the scenes. Fundamentally, it keeps tabs on indoor air quality.

It’s remarkably consistent, too, immediately flagging poor air quality the moment I start cooking in the kitchen or spraying harsh cleaning solutions around the house.

While the instant audio alerts chiming across all my Alexa speakers give me a quick heads-up (and remind me to crack a window), the Alexa app is where the real value lies. That’s where it breaks down the exact data points across particulate matter, volatile organic compounds, and yes, carbon monoxide levels.

That false alarm was the reason for buying a second unit. Since neither my existing Amazon monitor nor any other sensor in the house registered elevated carbon monoxide levels that night, I determined that the detector sounding the alarm was simply faulty.

To give myself real peace of mind, I ordered another Amazon Smart Air Quality Monitor specifically for our second floor. One of its biggest advantages over traditional detectors is that it plugs directly into an outlet for continuous, steady power — eliminating the nagging worry of dying batteries chirping in the middle of the night.

And while a plug-in sensor would typically go dark during a blackout, that isn’t a concern for me because my home’s battery backup ensures it stays powered and monitoring without missing a beat.
