ColorOS 17 starts its global rollout next week, here is the full schedule

ColorOS 17 made its debut with the Find X10 Pro Max series in China and now it is ready to follow the phones as they set off on their global journey – the global launch for the Find X10 and Find X10 Pro Max is scheduled for October 21 (Wednesday next week). Obviously, the X10 models will come with v17 out of the box. Now, here’s when older Oppo phones will get the new ColorOS version.

About a week after the X10 generation goes live, Oppo will start rolling out ColorOS 17 for the X9 series and the N6 foldable.

Then in November Oppo will focus on Reno15 and Reno14 series and start expanding ColorOS 17 to more series like the F and K models. More Reno and K phones will be added to the list after that, plus the update will start hitting some Oppo tablets. The update process will stretch out into the first three months of 2027. Okay, now let’s have a closer look at ColorOS 17 itself. This version continues Oppo’s work on refining the user interface – ColorOS 15 brought Parallel Animation, v16 brought Seamless Animation and now v17 adds Living Flow Design. This refines the translucent looks of the interface and makes sure that every interactive element compresses, stretches or bounces when you touch it.

Marketing names aside, the important change is the new Unified Rendering Architecture that brings all rendering tasks under the same roof. This allowed Oppo to cut down on redundant rendering tasks, which led to 25% lower rendering load and 30% lower RAM usage.

The OS internals were further improved with the upgraded Laminar Flow Engine. Oppo says that it allows the phone to keep 25% more open apps in the background. Also, the Gallery loads thumbnails 50% faster on a cold start. Overall app launch stability has improved by 55%.

And, as you can imagine, ColorOS 17 adds a lot of AI. AI Mind Pilot’s Agent Mode can organize and rename photos and files on your device based on their content and date. It can complete complex multi-step tasks too. This includes grabbing all photos from your trips, organizing them into albums and potentially even making a vlog out of them if you want one.

AI Mind Space has new features that make it great for learning – you can add documents and video links to it and it will turn them into structured, searchable information. It works for travel too as it can combine content and destination maps to create personalized trip plans.

All of this AI has privacy implications – to that end, Oppo has built its Private Computing Cloud, which uses end-to-end encryption and processes data in a secure environment that even Oppo itself can’t access. ColorOS 17 adds post-quantum security capabilities to strengthen data transmission.

We’ve seen various takes on scam call detection, but ColorOS 17 has an interesting take – its AI Call Guard can sniff out AI face swaps and synthetic voices while working on the device itself.

By the way, we have a hands-on with the Find X10 and X10 Pro Max. We also handled the Hasselblad teleconverter kit for the X10 Pro Max. Oppo UK is already taking blind pre-orders for the X10 series, but the proper launch will be next week.
