Nothing is reportedly working on smart glasses – ones with a camera and ones without

Nothing, the smartphone company that has only launched three mid-rangers this year ((4a), (4a) Pro and (4b)), has been distracting itself with other gadgets. Earlier this week, it unveiled new Bluetooth speakers. And now Roland Quandt says that Carl Pei & co. are working on not one but two kinds of smart glasses.

One will be the more capable camera-equipped type of smart glasses. They will have ChatGPT, translation and other features.

The second kind will be simple audio glasses (i.e. they will have a mic and speakers). These will allow you to play music or audio books like you would with headphones or use an AI assistant.

Both glasses will have photochromic lenses, the kind that automatically darken when you go outside. There are no images of the Nothing glasses just yet, but they should leak soon enough.

Anyway, the audio glasses will complement the company’s headphone offerings. But the camera-equipped glasses require more complicated hardware – we’d say that the company’s resources would be better spent on working on the Nothing Phone (5). And not just because of the public’s derision of smart glasses either. But what do we know?
