At EuMW 2026, CML Microcircuits showcased RF amplifier technologies for applications ranging from smart metering and IoT devices to broadband instrumentation, UAV communications, and satellite links. European Microwave Week (EuMW) 2026, held from 4-9 October at ExCeL London, is Europe’s premier event for the RF, microwave, mmWave, and radar industry, bringing together the companies and technologies shaping the future of high-frequency engineering.
At the CML Microcircuits booth, everything RF met Rob Smith, Product Line Director for RF and mmWave Compound Semiconductors at CML Micro, who walked us through their showcase. The products included a new ISM-band power amplifier for smart metering and IoT applications, a high-efficiency 10 W RF power amplifier for mission-critical communications and UAV links, a broadband traveling-wave amplifier for instrumentation systems, and a Ka-band power amplifier designed for SATCOM and point-to-point data links.
CMX90A002 ISM-Band Power Amplifier
The CMX90A002 is a new power amplifier being shown for the first time at EuMW 2026. Designed for operation from 860 to 960 MHz, the device targets ISM-band applications including smart meters, automatic meter reading (AMR) systems, wireless sensor networks, and other IoT devices.
The device builds on the company’s existing CMX90A003 and CMX90A004 products while reducing the required board area. Packaged in a compact 3 × 3 mm QFN, it occupies 44% less space than the previous generation, allowing designers to create smaller and more compact wireless devices. Another key enhancement is its wide operating voltage range of 1.9 to 4.5 V, enabling operation from a variety of power sources, including battery-powered systems. Evaluation boards are available through CML Micro’s distribution network, allowing engineers to evaluate the amplifier in their designs quickly.
CMX90A009 High-Efficiency 10 W RF Power Amplifier
The CMX90A009 is a 10 W gallium arsenide (GaAs) power amplifier designed for applications requiring high output power and efficiency across a broad frequency range. The amplifier operates from 136 MHz to 1 GHz and supports supply voltages from 6 to 9.5 V. It is aimed at applications including TETRA and P25 radio systems, as well as UAV command-and-control data links. The amplifier can be optimized and matched for specific sub-bands within its operating frequency range, providing flexibility for different system requirements.
The device delivers a P3dB output power of 10 W with power-added efficiency of up to 60%. This combination of output power and efficiency makes it suitable for communication systems where thermal management and power consumption are important considerations.
MMA005022B Distributed Traveling-Wave Amplifier
The MMA005022B is a broadband distributed traveling-wave amplifier designed for applications that require exceptionally wide frequency coverage. Operating from 30 kHz to 50 GHz, the amplifier provides broad bandwidth from a single device, making it suitable for microwave instrumentation, RF test systems, optical instrumentation, and communication applications. Unlike conventional narrowband amplifiers, its traveling-wave architecture enables operation across multiple decades of frequency while maintaining consistent performance.
The GaAs MMIC amplifier delivers approximately 15.5 dB of gain and up to 22 dBm output power at the 1 dB compression point. Fully matched 50 Ω input and output ports simplify integration into test and measurement equipment. The amplifier has proven particularly popular in microwave test systems, where engineers need a single amplification stage capable of covering a very wide frequency range.
MMA212734 Ka-Band Power Amplifier
The MMA212734 is a 21 to 27 GHz power amplifier designed for point-to-point line-of-sight communication links and satellite communications systems operating in the Ka-band. Built using gallium arsenide pHEMT technology, it delivers a high gain of 25 dB and output power of 2 to 2.51 W, P1dB 34 dBm, while maintaining strong linearity performance.
Good linearity is especially important for modern high-bandwidth communication systems that use complex modulation schemes, as it helps preserve signal quality and minimize distortion. This makes the MMA212734 well suited for demanding SATCOM and microwave backhaul applications. The device is housed in a compact 5 × 5 mm QFN package, and evaluation boards are available for engineers looking to accelerate development and testing.
