AMD gave RX 6000 users some good news earlier this year, but followed it up by making them wait till 2027. But now, Team Red seems to be moving ahead of schedule. FSR Upscaling 4.1 is now officially available on Radeon RX 6000-series graphics cards, with support arriving through the new Adrenalin 26.10.1 driver.
It is still several months earlier than AMD’s previous early-2027 target and brings its machine-learning upscaler to a GPU family that first appeared all the way back in 2020. AMD’s Jack Huynh confirmed that support stretches from the RX 6900 series down to the RX 6400 class, with the company retuning the model and optimizing its execution for the older architecture.
AMD went back and reworked the model
FSR 4 originally launched exclusively on Radeon RX 9000 hardware, before FSR 4.1 expanded to the RX 7000 series earlier this year. With the RX 6000, AMD is optimizing the INT8 model originally developed for RX 7000, allowing the older cards to run the newer upscaler.

AMD claims a significant image-quality improvement over FSR 3.1, but only some real-world testing would reveal how effective they are on older cards. More importantly, this new update isn’t just limited to desktop-class graphics cards.
FSR 4.1 is officially expanding to Ryzen AI Max processors, including Strix Halo and Gorgon Halo systems, alongside Ryzen AI 9 laptops. The company has also created a more efficient version specifically for less powerful hardware such as Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, Ryzen Z2 Extreme, and Ryzen Z2 A handhelds. A great example is ASUS’ ROG Xbox Ally X. Still, availability on handhelds can depend on OEM driver rollouts.
Consoles are getting it too
Microsoft confirmed during AMD’s announcement that FSR 4.1 is coming soon to Xbox Series X and Series S. AMD and Microsoft revealed they’ve been working together to optimize the technology for Xbox hardware, though neither company has given a release date yet.

The wider FSR stack is getting attention as well, with Frame Generation receiving more consistent frame pacing, and Ray Regeneration expanding to additional games. Last but not least, FSR support for the Vulkan graphics API is finally on the way.
Hyung further adds that Redstone technologies are now present in more than 400 games on RX 9000-series hardware. This event confirmed once again that Microsoft’s upcoming Project Helix Xbox hardware will use AMD’s future FSR Diamond technology.
