Apple has responded to the reports regarding the iPhone Duo inner display cracking. In a statement to 9to5Mac, the company acknowledged that it is aware of the issue and has offered a basic suggestion.

The company sent the following statement as a response (emphasis ours):
“The response to iPhone Duo from early users has been incredibly positive, and we are seeing exciting things from developers who are rapidly updating their apps to take advantage of its unique form factor. We are aware of an issue impacting the inner display on a small number of iPhone Duo units. If users experience issues with their iPhone Duo display, they should contact AppleCare for a replacement.”
Yesterday, we reported on the issue that had started to gain traction on social media and internet forums. Several iPhone Duo buyers have posted to complain about a damaged internal display on their new phones, which was seemingly caused when they opened the phone after feeling resistance from the hinge. This caused a popping sound to be heard from the hinge, and the display being damaged immediately afterwards.
The company provided no explanation for what the cause could be, but that’s hardly a surprise. Apple claims the issue is impacting a small number of units, which seems plausible considering the estimated sales of the device. The solution is also one we had advocated in our report, which is to contact AppleCare, preferably at the earliest, so you can secure a replacement device as soon as one is available.
