At IMS 2026, everything RF visited the Teledyne Storm Microwave booth, where the company showcased its new Flat Phase 115 cable assemblies, designed to improve phase stability by eliminating the effects of the PTFE ‘Teflon knee’. They also highlighted the company’s VITA 67.3 interconnect solutions, board-mount connectors, and StormFlex cable assemblies for aerospace, defense, and other high-frequency RF applications.
A key focus of the demonstration was the FlatPhaseTM 115 series, a cable assembly capable of operating up to 50 GHz. Traditional RF cables that use PTFE dielectrics can experience a phase discontinuity, commonly known as the ‘Teflon knee,’ which typically occurs near room temperature. This effect can introduce phase variations that create challenges for system designers and calibration engineers. Teledyne Storm Microwave’s new Flat Phase 115 cable uses a different dielectric material that eliminates PTFE from the cable construction, removing the Teflon knee and providing a much more stable phase response across temperature variations.
The company demonstrated how the new cable maintains a flat phase characteristic compared with conventional PTFE-based designs. This improved phase stability is particularly valuable in applications where precise and repeatable electrical performance is critical, including calibration systems, phased-array radar, and other advanced RF and microwave systems that depend on accurate phase control.
In addition to the FlatPhase 115 product line, Teledyne Storm Microwave showcased its VITA 67.3 connectivity solutions and a range of board-mount RF connectors. The demonstration included SMP, SMPM, SMPT, and SMPMT connector interfaces available in both edge-launch and surface-mount configurations, supporting operation at frequencies of up to 40 GHz.
The interconnect solutions were demonstrated alongside the company’s StormFlex cable assemblies, including the StormFlex 034, 047, and 086 product families. These cable assemblies are designed to deliver high-frequency signal performance while maintaining flexibility, making them suitable for applications where routing constraints and mechanical durability are important considerations.
